• 2010-2013 GX 460 owners: Special Service Campaign (8.8.2019) for Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves. Status: Remedy Available / Description: There is a possibility that moisture in the air may cause a filter in the vehicle emissions system to degrade. This degradation could cause damage to other parts of the vehicle emission system and illuminate the check engine light. REMEDY: On Customer Demand any authorized Lexus dealer will replace the filter in the air injection pump with one of an improved design and replace the air switching valves in the vehicle emissions system FREE OF CHARGE. The dealer will inspect the air injection pump for damage and may replace the air injection pump as needed FREE OF CHARGE. Year and mileage limits do not apply to this special service campaign.More info here.

• I got a CEL with code P1442, the secondary air pump problem. What should I do? Replacing the secondary air pump is usually cost prohibitive ($1000+ USD). Consider the bypass kit from Hewitt Technologies or an aftermarket air pump
• When I pull up to a stoplight/sign, after a couple seconds, there is a loud clunk or thump. What is that? This is most likely the drive shaft. For a short term fix, you can “over” grease the drive shaft, but the clunk will return. There is a TSB that specifies new parts to fix this issue
• 460/470 Timing Belt / Chain : '03-'09 GX 470 models have a timing belt with replacement intervals of 90K miles or 9 years / '10-'21 GX 460 models have a timing chain not requiring service.
• 460/470 rear HVAC : 460 models equipped with 3 zone climate have AC and heat in the rear. Rear HVAC unit in 460 has both a heater core and AC evaporator. 460 models without 3-zone HVAC do not have a condenser fan in front of the radiator. 470 models with 3 zone climate have AC evaporator in the rear. There is no 3 zone heating in the 470 but heat is supplied by front vents.

• 460 - Can I add Crawl Control and or Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) to my '10-'19 GX 460? Crawl control and/or MTS can be added to any trim level '10-'19 GX 460. MTS isn’t even available in US models in North America except Canada top tier models. Crawl Control was available on '10-13 Premium models via special order packages and on '14-'19 models with the Driver Support Package. Five speed crawl is used in GX 460 like the '13+ LC & LX 570. Previous years of crawl in LC and LX 570 are three speed. '20-'21 GX 460 retrofit is not known at this time. • 460 - Is there an extended warranty on the emission related air injection pump system on '10-'13 GX 460s? Beyond the existing 10 year/unlimited mileage extended warranty a new service campaign arrived on 8/8/2019 for 2010-2013 models. It is now possible to request replacement of air injection pump (only replaced if signs of damage), new air injection pump cap/foam and air switching valves prior to failure. More info here. If one has a GX 460 past this warranty in the future one can always do Hewitt bypass or repair with relatively inexpensive 3rd party parts. Replacement of these parts is easy for the DIYer. The air pump on the 460 is located in an easy location behind the front right headlight and does not require the major disassembly of engine that the 470 requires. Temporary method to get out of LIMP mode - Remove plastic cover over radiator area, disconnect electrical connector on air pump, reset existing OBD codes, CEL will be re-triggered but should keep vehicle out of LIMP mode. It has also been reported you can reset the codes while vehicle is running and that will also keep out of limp mode. One would need to do the latter workaround each vehicle trip though.
